Land Technology Possible Futures

Jennifer Qupanuaq May from Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, discusses how poor internet connection affects Inuit in remote communities.

Panel 3: Extending our Practices occurred on June 28th and featured multiple talented arts professionals who have pioneered Indigenous film and television. Jennifer Qupanuaq May highlighted that safety starts from home, and that having TV in Indigenous languages is needed to break through colonial barriers to technology. But to fully leave the box of inaccessibility, she also mentioned that without sufficient access to the internet, Inuit cannot stream Inuit TV.

The Arctic Arts Summit’s Knowledge Creators Next program brings together northern Indigenous post-secondary students, young activists and emerging professionals to attend the Summit. Participants in the Knowledge Creators Next (KCN) program will be sharing their daily reflections—in the form of tweets, photographs, poems, sketches, videos or other short responses—on the Arctic Arts Summit’s digital platform and across social media.
