Artist Project: An outdoor dance performance honours one of Sápmi’s eight seasons

Liv Aira is a Lule Sámi Indigenous dancer and choreographer from Jokkmokk in Swedish Sápmi, with a BA in dance and MA in choreography from Institute of the Arts Barcelona. The inspiration in her art originates from her culture and the nature in Sápmi. Liv is currently touring the world with dance shows for different age categories and screendance films, with the aim to introduce the world to Sámi culture.

The screendance film Dálvve is an introduction of the emotional journey through the winter in the Arctic circle in Sweden. This is a part of the series the eight seasons, that’s inspired by the Sámi year in the reindeer-herding culture. Watch the film and a discussion with the artist below:
